Free Online Stopwatch โ€” No Download Needed

Our online stopwatch is a free, browser-based precision timer that works on any device โ€” desktop, laptop, tablet, or mobile phone. It measures elapsed time accurately to one hundredth of a second (0.01s) and allows you to record unlimited lap times without stopping the clock. No account, no app download, and no plugin is required โ€” just open the page and click Start.

How to Use the Online Stopwatch

Click Start to begin timing โ€” the button changes to Pause. Click Pause to freeze the stopwatch at the current time without resetting it. Click Start again to continue from where you paused. Click Lap at any point to record the current elapsed time as a split โ€” the stopwatch keeps running. The lap list shows each split time, the time between laps, and highlights your fastest and slowest laps automatically. Click Reset to clear everything and return to zero.

What Are Lap Times and Split Times?

A lap time (also called a split time) is a recorded snapshot of the stopwatch at a specific moment, without stopping the clock. In running, each lap records how long a full circuit took. In swimming, a split records the time for each length of the pool. In cooking, you might record each stage of a multi-step recipe. Our stopwatch shows both the cumulative elapsed time and the individual time for each lap so you can see which laps were fastest and which were slowest.

Stopwatch for Sports Training

Athletes use stopwatches to measure sprint times, monitor pace per kilometer or mile, time interval training sets, track rest periods, and compare performance across sessions. Our online stopwatch is suitable for running, cycling, swimming, gym workouts, and team sports training. The lap feature is particularly useful for interval training where you alternate between high-intensity effort and rest periods.

Stopwatch for the Pomodoro Technique

The Pomodoro Technique is a popular productivity method where work is divided into focused 25-minute intervals called Pomodoros, separated by 5-minute breaks. After four Pomodoros, a longer break of 15โ€“30 minutes is taken. Use our stopwatch to time each Pomodoro session โ€” when 25 minutes have elapsed, pause and take your break. Use the Lap button to record the end of each Pomodoro for tracking. For countdown timers instead of stopwatch-style timing, visit our Online Timer page.

How Accurate Is an Online Stopwatch?

Our stopwatch uses the browser's requestAnimationFrame API and the Date.now() method for timing, which provides accuracy to within a few milliseconds under normal conditions. The display updates every frame (approximately 60 times per second on most screens), showing hundredths of a second. For official timing in competitive sports, a certified hardware stopwatch or electronic timing system should be used. For training, practice, and general timing purposes, our browser-based stopwatch is highly accurate and reliable.
