In most Western countries, a person's age increases on their birthday each year — so someone born June 26, 1990 turns 36 on June 26, 2026. However, in some East Asian traditions (particularly Korea), a person is considered 1 year old at birth, and everyone ages by one year on New Year's Day rather than their birthday. Our calculator uses the standard Western age calculation method.
People born on February 29 (Leap Day) only have a "real" birthday every four years. In non-leap years, they typically celebrate their birthday on either February 28 or March 1, depending on local tradition and legal convention.
